Privacy Policy

The short version

Dancing Files does not collect anything about you. There is no account, no analytics, no crash reporting and no telemetry of any kind. Your files are converted on your own Mac and never leave it.

The app makes exactly one network request, and only to ask whether a newer version exists. You can turn that off.

Your files

Files you drop into the app are read from where they already sit, and the converted result is written next to them or to the folder you chose. Nothing is uploaded, and no copy is kept anywhere else. Playing an audio file before converting it plays it from that same place. With the network off, everything except the update check works exactly as it does with it on.

What is stored on your Mac

Two small files in ~/Library/Application Support/Dancing Files:

settings.json — your preferences: the output folder, naming rules, theme, accent colour and whether the update check is on.
history.json — the conversion log: file names, the formats, both sizes and the time. It is what the History view shows, and it clears from there or from Settings.

Both stay on your Mac. Neither is sent anywhere, and deleting the app's support folder removes both for good.

The update check

A few times a day, and whenever you pick Check for Updates…, the app fetches a small file from this site called version.json. It holds nothing but a version number, a download link and a line about what changed.

The request carries no information about you, your Mac or your files — no identifier, no name, no count of anything. As with any request to any website, the server that answers it necessarily sees the IP address it is answering, which is how the internet works rather than something the app chooses to send.

Turn the check off under Settings › Updates and the app makes no network requests at all.

This website

dancingfiles.com is a handful of static files. There are no cookies, no trackers, no analytics scripts and no embedded third-party content. The site is served by a hosting provider that, like every web server, keeps ordinary access logs — a request, a time, an IP address — which are used to run the service and nothing else.

Children, and data requests

Since nothing about anybody is collected, there is nothing held about children specifically, and no data to hand over, correct or delete on request. If you want everything the app has ever stored gone, delete the app's support folder as described above.
